the red and the black

young vibrant soul
in red skirt and
black top
if only we could
push the pause button,
freeze life’s frame,
and keep horror
at bay

red was the color
she wore…
red
for energy, passion,
embracing the world

black was the color
she wore…
black
for the mysterious,
the unknowable

red was
the blood that flowed
unstanched
in its final
ebbing tide

black is
the empty void
that gapes where
sunlight once
danced and played

such a senseless
act is beyond
our understanding.

the image of her
life affirming
smile is not

with black
we mourn the life
taken

with red
we remember the life
lived

The Blank Page

the blank page

the white space, void of words
would return my stare
and seem to ask
with fingers drumming,

‘Well?’

its opaque nothingness
would leave me
tongue-tied,
twisting in fear,
irrationally wishing for the
words to suddenly appear,
for the ink to magically flow

yet…

I would carry the blank page
with me through the day
and at intervals remove
from my pocket and unfold,
hoping for a different result

but it was always the same –
the judgmental air,
the mocking tone,
the pounding pulse

at long last,
at rope’s end
my dander up,
I cried out
‘what the fuck do you know?
after all, you are nothing!’

the blank page
replied
with…

silence

a silence so profound
that it overwhelmed me
and enveloped me
in a delicious stillness

I stared
at the white screen
and felt it reflect
its glow upon me
it was a light pregnant with
ideas yet to be born,
words yet to be shaped

I just had to chill out
and let the ink flow

I broke out in laughter
at the realization that
the blank page was
and always had been…

my friend

Concert a Sellout!

The July 18th concert at the West Valley Music Center was a blast! A great vibe in the room, and a sellout crowd in spite of the freaky rainstorm (In July?!). FYI – The two previous days of rain this year were on May 15th, my birthday, and on March 1st, the day of my Record Release Party (Perhaps I should schedule more events?)

With the backing of some great musicians – Tim Horrigan on bass, my son, Bryan, on percussion and melodica, Chris Blondal, drums, and Craig Copeland, guitar, the show included numbers from the ‘Dancing with the Moment ‘ and ‘A Blue Little Corner’ albums, plus some new material, and even a tune from the Peppermint Trolley Company LP. We had fun, fun, fun!

I shared the bill with singer/songwriter, Raspin Stuart. He was a gas to work with!

Danny Faragher in Concert for Music on a Warm Summer Night

Danny Faragher, on his promotional tour of his latest Dancing with the Moment album (recently released on iTunes), will be performing at a one night Special Engagement with the Acoustic Music Series on July 18th at 8pm.

Danny Faragher will be playing and singing songs from his albums, Dancing with the Moment, and Blue Little Corner, as well as other tunes from his storied career, and will be accompanied by a full band consisting of Tim Horrigan, Craig Copeland, Chris Blondal and Bryan Faragher. Together they will span the musical range from Jazz to Blues to Funk to West Coast Psychedelic.

Sharing the bill is Raspin Stuwart, performing Blues, Jazz, Acoustic Soul and Adult Contemporary.

The show will take place at the West Valley Music Center, 24424 Vanowen Street, West Hills, CA 91307. Tickets are available for $15 by reservation only. Call 818-992-4142.

Hear Danny on 88.3 Southern FM Melbourne Right Now!

As part of his recent press tour to promote his new album, Dancing with the Moment, Danny Faragher appeared live on the Purple Haze radio show with host Nick Black, 88.3 Southern FM in Melbourne, Australia.

The interview aired Wednesday May 26th, at 8pm AEST, and featured Danny’s numerous stories from his long recording career, including anecdotes about his time playing on The Sunset Strip as a house band, the emerging Venice counter-culture scene, and the touring of the late 70s, all the way to his recent experiences of producing his recent solo album Dancing with the Moment with his son Bryan.

The 2 hour interview intertwined around many musical selections from The Peppermint Trolley Company, Bones and The Faragher Brothers, along with numerous tracks from his recent solo album Dancing with the Moment.

For those that missed the original airing on the 88.3 Southern FM website, it can be found here at the radio station’s website.

Dancing with the Moment, which has already been called “one of the greatest albums of the year” by critic Beverly Patterson, also received some kind words and attention from host Nick Black who called it, “fabulous” and “brilliant” and praised the album’s cohesive nature and urged listeners to buy the whole album, not just a single track.

Danny Invades Australia – Live on Purple Haze!

On his continuing press tour to promote his new album, Dancing with the Moment, Danny Faragher will appear live on the Purple Haze radio show with host Nick Black, 88.3 Southern FM in Melbourne, Australia.

The interview will intertwine with music selections from past and present, as Danny presents songs from his long recording career, as well as new songs from Dancing with the Moment, which is out now off The Blue Print Sound label. The interview will air Wednesday at 8pm AEST. Back in the USA, that’s 6am EST, 3am PST.

For those that prefer not to wake up or stay up to hear the program at the early hours of the morning, the show will be in podcast form shortly after the original airing on the 88.3 Southern FM website. It also will be available on Dannyfaragher.com once it is available.

Danny is expected to share stories of his time in the music industry from the hay-day of the Sunset Strip to his more recent adventures, as well as talk about the many years spent on his recent album, Dancing with the Moment, which has already been called “one of the greatest albums of the year.”
